Process or Goal Oriented?, Slow Stitching Always from Canadian Needle Nana

The late October warmth meant still more flashy blooms into early November. Like the Hardy Rose Mallow.

The center structures are so interesting too. I was surprised to see stamens and pistils here. What would you label this stunning colour?
I've been visiting the pond at dusk to see if I can catch sight of my mystery animal that might be a muskrat. The skies are always interesting at those times of day. I was hoping the pink tinges would show stronger. But it nicely captured the trees' reflections in the water.
Inside, I've turned to my Year ...

Three or More Things To (Maybe) Beat The Stubborn Blues from Canadian Needle Nana

I read this line recently...you are a work in progress because life isn't done with you yet. I definitely mistakenly thought the opposite. That at my seven decades and counting age I'd have everything figured out, things would be settled down to a point where life would be smooth sailing through whatever years are left. The thing that might derail that would be unavoidable illness. But no, there are still people/family worries, messy situations and uncertainty. That last thing is creeping into my thoughts more. I've questioned how I'm handling certain present situations which ...

Catching Up from High Road Quilter

I can't believe it's been a whole month since I last posted. So much has been going on.

I have been working on making progress on my quilts, but mostly I have been making videos.

I made a video about How I Made the Tropical Fish Quilt With a Pieced Border. I showed  this quilt to you in my last post. I wish Blogger would show the whole thumbnail instead of just part of it.

I bought another batch of African fabric, and recorded a video about that.  It turned out to be too long and kept crashing ...

Quilt Reveal: Tropical Fish Quilt from High Road Quilter

I started this Tropical Fish quilt for the July blog hop, but I wasn't able to finish it before my post date. Since then, I have finished quilting and binding it, and it is now ready for its grand reveal.

The fish is made with free cut applique pieces, made out of fabric scraps from some of my other projects. I used school glue instead of fusible to secure it. I combined stitching down the applique pieces with the quilting.

I surrounded the fish with half square triangles. I could have used scraps for this part, but I was ...

Quilt Reveal: Five Minute Quilt from High Road Quilter

I thought it would be fun to try out the AI trend, so even though I have lots of ideas for quilt videos, I asked AI to give me a title, a description and a script for a viral YouTube video and waited to see the results.

I have to admit that it took me five minutes to stop laughing, because the title said "How to Make a Quilt in Five Minutes".  Since making a quilt is so much fun, why would anyone want to make one that quickly. Wouldn't you want to make the fun last as long ...

Birthday Celebrations, Shopping, Pinterest Pages, Jackie's Meditation Moment from Canadian Needle Nana

Order of business from the last post, Beth's cake was officially a Chocolate Filled Kahlua Tiramisu Cake from Rock Recipes. This cake is delicious and surprisingly light.

Tony's birthday celebrations continued Saturday night. It included a wonderful and fun limo ride to Quebec. We did the same thing for his 80th, some of you may remember. We enjoyed oysters and the four course Table d'hote meal at the Gatineau Sterling and it was delicious. Here is the Salmon Tartare. Most of our main dish, steaks, came home with us.
I gave myself a haircut the day before ...

Inspirational Quote Crazy Quilt from High Road Quilter

When I was showing the additions I was making to the Inspirational Quote Crazy Quilt, lots of my blog friends said they would like to see the quilt in person. The photographs just don't show the size of the additions, how they work with the other motifs that are around it, or where in the quilt the motifs are.

I started a YouTube channel so I could show you the quilt in video form to help with some of that. It doesn't replace seeing the quilt in person, but it is closer than the photographs.

I hope this ...

Chookshed Stitchers Challenge, Bramble Blooms, Free Redwork Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

I'm amused watching this small turkey flock trot through the front yard. The male is displaying constantly and looking so special.

But as far as we can tell, the females don't even give him a glance. In fact, one day they all left and trotted off leaving him standing there alone. We felt a little sorry for him.
What a great gift! My sister always hits the mark with the books she gives me.
I've enjoyed reading it very much and just love the collection of over 50 easy and healthy recipes Helen has included with her ...

Hourglass Blocks, Free Patterns, Berry Scones from Canadian Needle Nana

The garden and land is getting a summer look with so much green grass and sprouting leaves everywhere. No matter the season or weather my morning routine is exactly the same... get up and get out.

I take Ned out for a big walkabout first thing. How tall our trees are!
Then back home where he gets fed and I get a coffee. Then I usually get my laptop out and work a little on my blog or photos or emails. What about you? Do you have a morning routine? This was our latest Prompt from LeeAnna at Not Afraid ...

Food Hacks, Barred Owls, BB Border Design, Pink Hour Glass Blocks from Canadian Needle Nana

I just have to share the end of another successful Barred Owls of Indiana season. I so enjoyed watching these three grow and then branch successfully off into the big wide world. I really like how the owl parents are so attentive and make sure all three, even the youngest and smallest, hatched days after the first, gets plenty of food. Their eyesight is thought to be better than ours so imagine emerging from the nest box and seeing all the world in front of them for the first time- no wonder they look transfixed.

BTW, the Cottage Garden Samplings ...

Amazon Delights, Shopping, Pileated Woodpecker from Canadian Needle Nana

We are doing well with the healthier eating. The weekly box of fresh vegetables and fruit has certainly helped. There was a large cauliflower, potatoes and green beans lately that I used in one of those mushroom soup casseroles...actually I switched to cream of chicken and it was good too. I also made a lentil, pea and bean soup with added carrots and sweet potatoes from the box. Not foods Tony would like but he enjoyed the soup. And for me, I can make a meal of a salad. I always add carrots and oranges. I'm still using ...

Thrifted Bargains, Tiny 9 Patches, Knitting Moss Stitch from Canadian Needle Nana

Ned's big brother is staying with us for a little while. Here he's having a chat with Tony. Petey is demonstrating his signature move...how he can balance and beg at the same time. Definitely treat worthy, he insists.

During this week, I've been tv stitching. So enjoy making these tiny EPP blocks.
I found another YouTube stitcher to watch who enjoys both cross stitch and quilting. Laura at LalaDee Stitches. She has a great upbeat vibe and shares much enthusiasm for each of her many projects. She does beautiful work in both cross stitching and quilting ...

Tempestry Project, Confetti Scraps, Woodpecker Slow Stitching, Friday Nights from Canadian Needle Nana

"Into your hands and out of your head"- Kate, The Last Homely House.

She was referring to the comfort and special calm that stitching can bring us.

Kate was recently a guest lecturer on a Norwegian stitching cruise where she met the lady who is one of the leaders of the Tempestry Project. This is a project where you stitch a temperature chart of the year you were born and one of this year. An easy way to track if the climate has changed much in that area. It would be interesting, wouldn't it?  You can see more about ...

Free Patterns, Surprising Beauty Product, Tiny 9 Patches, Peanut Butter Balls from Canadian Needle Nana

Tony's breakfast...Beth's homemade bread, one slice with peanut butter and the other with marmalade.

He gets a subscription to Down Home, a Newfoundland magazine, every year for his birthday. He enjoys reading it and doing the puzzle pages. I like to check the recipes. Here's one recently that brought back memories...a very popular sweet back home, Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls. Simple ingredients. Would these be popular where you are??
My Sunday slow stitching was finishing these EPP tiny 3 inch 9 patch blocks. I'd put aside a few yellowish scraps when I was sorting ...

Sensational Recipe, Bramble Blooms, New Spin on Backbasting from Canadian Needle Nana

My second Odd Bunch box has arrived and I've been very pleased with both of them. For $20 a box, I think they are a good deal. All of the items have been fresh, nothing even close to spoiling or odd.  I am enjoying the variety of items included, a nice selection of vegetables and fruit.

I got blackberries in the first box, a fruit I never buy so it was neat to try them. It also had a butternut squash in the first and an eggplant in this one. Two things I haven't cooked before.
I cut ...

Hockey Fun, Stitchy To Do List, My Tiny Video from Canadian Needle Nana

I thought of some of my blogging friends on Sunday...those who spend time in arenas with the children involved in one sport or another. This is where I was this Sunday...the Kingston Invista Centre, watching Robbie with his team at the final tournament of the year. They'd won all their games right down to the very last one which they lost and there were tears. Life lessons of course, but much satisfaction that the boys had certainly come a long way skill wise. Overall, a wonderful season of hockey.

On my To Do List this week...

I ...

Bramble Blooms, Tiny 9 Patch, Animal Rescue from Canadian Needle Nana

I showed Ned and his fellow chocolate Lab litter mates in this post to celebrate his birthday.   The litter included Petey who stayed with them and Beth made them a cake.

And Ned got to have his piece too which disappeared so fast it's a good thing I took a photo beforehand.
I finished my wonderful Peter Pauper Press Snowman and Friends jigsaw just in time to see the snow leave. Each of these puzzles includes a full poster of the picture which is a great help.
I finally made a decision about what next for the Bramble Blooms ...

Patchwork Projects, Lucy Bird Art, It's Spring-Maybe from Canadian Needle Nana

You know you're living in the country when a heading in the local forum reads..." Do Not Approach: Bobcat Sighted". It was noted to look healthy and was not aggressive. One time people did not have to to be told to stay away from such a wild animal. Once Tony showed me a clip of a man and woman being chased by a buffalo...they thought they could pet it or some such nonsense. But perhaps it is not new. Just that with our impressive social networks we are hearing about it. I read the phrase "common sense is ...

Two You Tube Quilty Stars, Stitching Tiny Blocks from Canadian Needle Nana

I park at the edge of parking lots and one day I went behind the little mini mall to park. Look what was there waiting for me. Usually here on the property, to see 3 deer together is a big deal. I counted 9 spread out amongst the trees. It was early morning so they may have overnighted there.

I roasted a large chicken (I now buy the largest one I can find these days) that I stuffed with a bread stuffing.  It made meals most of last week, well, for three days anyway.
Finished it with cooking the carcass ...
